Resources

Padlet

Padlet will be used in two sections of this learning program. The first section is prior to the museum visit where students search images and add descriptions that they believe represent sea country. The second part is after viewing the gallery, where groups share with the class their favourite photograph from the exhibition and discuss what they learn about Sea Country. The students are able to view other's responses online as well as engage in class discussion. The online platform also record the learning outcomes for student reference.

YouTube (Two Ways of Rope Netting Video)

Two videos are provided to show alternative approaches for students to view before beginning the group weaving activity. The videos provide steps clearly and are intended for different types of learners. The videos can be paused and reviewed by the student as needed. Students can also use other method to make their net.

Museum Visit Photographs (Teacher and Student Generated)

The photographs from the museum visit are used as visual resources for post-visit activities. The teacher uses images from the Garrigarrang gallery to remind students learning in the museum. Students will discuss and use their own photos of sea country study to show their understanding. These images are used to stimulate discussion around connections between humans and sea country and to support students in using visual data to describe their learning from specific places.

Recycled Materials (Fabric, Plastic Bags, String)

& Group Symbols

Students do collaborative weaving using recycled materials, such as fabric strips from old clothing, plastic bags, newspapers, and strings. Group symbols such as shell, fish, turtle, and leaf are provided to put on their nets. This activity is linked to the topic of caring for the environment.  The hands-on nature of weaving supports students to think about sustainability while creating a physical representation of connection and community. Sticky notes are also provided for individual written reflections.
